On Monday night, before bedtime, we found out that due to the massive amounts of snow expected all schools and businesses in a 7,500 mile radius would be closed. I turned to The Dad, after we forced The Daughters to bed, and winked. He winked back. I winked again and asked, "Tomorrow morning, you're going to let me sleep in, right?"
This was not exactly the exchange The Dad had fantasized about since he was 12 years old, but he's a super guy and he granted my wish, and he let me sleep in.
It was exactly 10:17 am when he came racing into our bedroom towing Daughter 2 behind.
"Honey, wake up. Something's wrong with Daughter 2!" There really was sheer panic is his voice. So, in the matter of one day, the man had actually learned to panic!
I pulled myself somewhat back to the land of the wakeful, uncrossed my eyes and said, "Wha--?"
"Look... Look at her. Something's wrong with her. We're in the midst of a blizzard and she needs to go to the doctor. Oh no! What if the doctor's not open? She'll need to go to the ER!" He rambled.
Daughter 2 piped in and said, "I feel fine and I don't want a shot!" Her tiny little voice shaky just a bit.
I woke up enough to glance at Daughter 2's beautiful face. Her eyes had a ring of red all around them and her lips were extremely pale. You could even call them silvery.
The Dad, regaining a little composure, assessed the situation. "OK. I know we won't be able to drive the van in this stuff. I don't know that we need to call 9-1-1, but maybe we could have Lifeflight land up at the park and I'll hike there with Daughter 2 and we'll get her in. We don't have any meds that I think would work with her. Or...Maybe we could call the doctor and meet her half way. What do you think."
I readjusted my glasses and pulled Daughter 2 closer to me. I held her splotchy face in my hands and said, "Did you put on make up this morning?"
"Yes, Momma. I tried something different. I put lip gloss on as eyeliner and eye shadow on as lipstick."
The Dad will never survive the teen years - especially if we are snowed in!
