But...
I couldn't - in good conscience - come up with any kind of legitimate reason to sleep all day, so I battled with The Daughters to get ready and we headed to school ... about 15 minutes later than we should have been! As we pulled into the parking lot, The Daughters reminded me that they hadn't had breakfast. Lucky for them, I had M & Ms stashed in my filing cabinet!
Throughout the course of the day, my computer powered down three times during three different lessons! I forgot my lunch, didn't have breakfast and gave the last of my M & Ms to The Daughters! I forgot to take up a paper that I had stressed for three days before was due on this particular day. I sneezed approximatly 42 times during third hour, prompting me to write "Depends" on my Hellmarts list. My printer went off line right as I sent the quizzes to them. AND, I rammed my knee into my desk not once, not twice, but three times within one hour.
Finally, the 3:00 bell rang and brought with it a splitting headache, slumped shoulders and bruised and bumpy knee. As I bid my final student a fond farewell, I sat at my desk and prepared my lessons for the next day. If I couldn't conquer today, I would certainly dominate tomorrow, right?
| How could my trusted minivan keys conspire against me? |
What a day! Surely, nothing else could happen...
...but then I stood at the door and pressed the UNLOCK button. Nothing happened. I pressed the button again. Nothing. In the universal manner of getting anything to work, I pressed the button as fast and as hard as I could. Nada. Zilch. A Big Fat Zero. The door was just not opening. I dropped my head and fought off tears. Normally, the little things don't bother me. But today, the little things had ganged up on me and attacked me like little red fireants. And I'm here to tell you, this particular day stung!
What else could go wrong with the day? How in the world could I get home if I couldn't get my purse out of the closet?
Wait... I was standing in front of my closet.
I was standing in front of the closet in my classroom with my minivan keys in my hand, frantically pressing the unlock button expecting the closet door to magically open.
