For our end-of-summer Hoorah, we took The Daughters to the horse races. Do NOT call Human Services. We were NOT the only ones there with our kids. We might have been the only ones there whose kids had shoes on, though. And if Daughter 2 hadn't wiped her ketchup-y hands on her shirt, we'd have certainly been the only ones there whose kids had clean clothes on.
Daughter 1: I like horse number 1 because the number beside him is 99.
Daughter 2: I like him too. His number is the highest.
The Dad: If a horses number, which is called "odds" is high, that means the horse isn't very good.
Daughter 1: What? That's not fair!
Daughter 2: I don't understand. 99 odds is bad?
Me: Well, it just means no one expects him to win.
Daughter 2: Wait. I totally expect him to win. What's that do to his number?
