Hot Date

I have a hot date this weekend.  I've been looking forward to this for a long, long time.  I've shaved my legs.  I've colored my gray.  I've left instructions with my momma that she shouldn't wait up for us.  And while The Dad is invited to tag along, he's not the object of my affections for this date.

That's right... I've got a date with three of my favorite people:  Ron, Hermiony and, of course, Harry.

I saw the first Harry Potter when Daughter 1 was just weeks old.  We left her with my sister and went to watch the movie.  I had not read the
books because I had been previously occupied with falling asleep while reading What to Expect  While Expecting.  The Dad, who taught elementary at the time, had been enthralled with the series and couldn't wait to go see the movie.  I tagged along because I was a new momma and thought it would be a dark, warm theater.  Maybe I could catch a few zzzz's!

When Harry first appeared on the screen, I thought he was a cute little kid.  Then I learned he was orphaned, living with atrocious relatives!  Then I met Ron, who had to be the sweetest looking middle child I'd ever laid eyes on.  And Hermiony made her appearance and - gasp! - I was taken with her plight of being a completely different creature than her family!  These kids, that I didn't even know, reached right into my heart and made themselves at home!

Since I was just a few weeks out from giving birth and I was nursing Daughter 1, my hormones were nothing short of wonky.  By the time the movie was over (during which I didn't sleep one wink!), my boobs were rock hard and leaking, and I was in tears.  I turned to The Dad and he quickly said, "Oh, Honey!  We'll be home soon and you can hold our little precious bundle."

I sniffed and wiped away some snot and tears (in that order) and said, "Yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever.  Will there be another movie?  What will happen to Harry?"

And we've yet to miss a single movie.  I feel like I've watched Harry, Ron & Hermiony grow up.  OK, fine.  We literally have.  And yes, I know they are fictional characters but that doesn't stop me from loving them like only a hormonal, new momma can!

With this latest movie release, the Harry Potter saga is ending.  And to that I say, "CURSE YOU, JK!"  No, not really because, truth be told, I've only read the first book and only because it was required reading, so she can stop writing tomorrow and I wouldn't care.  But, c'mon Warner Brothers!  I've got to keep seeing these kids!  I need to know that everything turns out just fine for them.  (And, at a bajillion dollars a movie, I'm certain things will be just hunky dory for the three!)

But, just knowing that this is my last chance to see my favorite Hogwart's students is enough to make me lactate again.

Don't worry about me, though ... I'll grab extra napkins when I get my popcorn!
