I'm not a runner. Even if someone were chasing me, I don't know that I could actually run. When I walk fast, though, I pretend I look like Lolo Jones.
I'm not athletic. I like to play sports. I like to watch sports. I like to cheer loudly at sports, but I'm not an athlete.
I'm not competitive. OK - I'm a little bit competitive if I know I can win. If I can't win, then I become non-competitive, and I become the best loser ever!
So why was I doing the Hot Mamas Run? Well...let me explain:
I took The Daughters with me to the gym. I planted them on the elliptical machines, turned Disney on their TV, and I started my walk around the track. I rounded the first corner when I heard one yell to the other, "Don't breath like that." Then for added compassion, she said, "Dummy." I spun on my heels and gave them the Mom-eye. When they were sufficiently chilled, I continued my walk.
I got to the second turn and looked over to see The Daughters attempting to pull each other from their respective machines. I jogged to the machines and yanked their hands from each other at which point they told me they were just playing. Yeah, right.
I continued my walk when I heard what could only be a described as two elliptical machines coming unhinged. I spun just in time to see The Daughters going ninety-miles-an-hour. Then I heard Daughter 1
It hit me at that point: I am doing the Hot Mamas Run because no kids are allowed, and Momma needs to get her alone time where she can get it.
But more than that... it's about celebrating being healthy. And a healthy momma will live a long enough life to see her grandchildren and will still have the energy enough to point and laugh at her own daughters and say, "Paybacks are hell, chickies!" It's what keeps me going, my friends.
So, you wanna join me?
